Event and Entertainment Technology – revised to remove barriers

The New Zealand Certificate in Entertainment and Event Technology with strands in entertainment rigging, lighting, audio, vision, stage management, stage mechanics and scenic construction (Level 4) [Ref: 2417] has been revised. Some major changes have been made to remove barriers for learners. These include:

  • Removed strands related to screen production: Gripping, Screen Assistant direction, Screen Production Assistant, and Screen Special Effects. These strands have never been used.  New qualifications for the screen industry were developed to replace these strands.
  • Reduced the requirement for learners to complete two strands, to learners only having to complete one strand.
  • Revised Programme Conditions to recommend two strands, rather than require them.
  • Reduced qualification overall credit value, from 120 to 90 to reflect the completion of only one strand.

These changes are designed to remove barriers for learners, enabling them to gain a qualification in only one specialist technical area, where previously they were required to complete two.  The requirement for programmes to include ‘complex events’ was also removed, which will enable learners working in smaller venues to complete the qualification outcomes.

Providers may now apply for approval and accreditation to deliver this version (version 3) of the qualification.

New qualification number – 5367

Entertainment and Event Technology unit standards were also reviewed.
