Screen Industry Craft Skills qualification and New Zealand programme

Following the recent approval of the Introduction to the Aotearoa New Zealand Screen Industry micro-credential and skill standards, Toi Mai has developed a new qualification and a New Zealand programme.

The proposed New Zealand Certificate in Screen Industry Craft Skills is a 60-credit, level 4 qualification designed to equip learners with practical skills for a range of below-the-line (crew) roles in screen production.

This qualification is designed for workplace delivery, with practical experience being gained through work on screen productions. The certificate contains five strands: arts, logistics, production, technical and post-production. Learners will gain the qualification in one of the strands, focusing on a particular role within the strand.

Toi Mai has also developed a New Zealand programme leading to this proposed new qualification. This programme sets out industry’s expectations for delivery by providers, including the use of the new proposed screen craft skill standards. Providers will be able to seek accreditation for this New Zealand programme which leads to the New Zealand Certificate in Screen Industry Craft Skills.

In the programme learners gain 15 credits from the Introduction to the Aotearoa New Zealand Screen Industry micro-credential, with the remaining 45 credits gained on completion of two craft skill standards in a chosen discipline. The introductory micro-credential may be completed either as part of the programme or prior to commencement.

Toi Mai is currently developing skill standards and qualifications at levels 5 and 6 to enable skill development and career progression for crew in different crafts and roles.

Toi Mai is now seeking feedback from industry, providers and ākonga for both the level 4 qualification and the programme. Please see below for more information and provide feedback by Friday 16 August.
