Community Bike Mechanic Pathway micro-credential development

We would love to hear your feedback on a new micro-credential development in the bicycle industry.

The proposed micro-credential is:

  • Community Bike Mechanic Pathway (Level 3, 10 credits)

The Community Bike Mechanic Pathway micro-credential is for anyone wanting to develop technical skills and knowledge required to deliver consistent, safe and high-quality bicycle servicing in community workshop environments. The learners will develop competence in diagnostics, repair, quality assurance and communication within a community-led context and will qualify as community mechanics.

The learning outcomes for this micro-credential are listed below:

Learning outcome 1 Carry out basic repairs to the most common issues, servicing, and diagnostics of bicycles, including wheels, brakes, drivetrains, hubs, headsets, and bottom brackets.
Learning outcome 2 Apply quality assurance standards, triage procedures, and safety protocols to ensure reliability and compliance.
Learning outcome 3 Communicate effectively in community bike hubs, fostering inclusive and safe workshop environments.
