New tax micro-credential to upskill Pacific creatives August 21st, 2025 A new micro-credential will help Pacific creatives such as musicians, film-makers and digital designers develop practical skills to manage the financial side of their business. The Introduction to Taxation in the Creative Sector micro-credential is being launched by private-training provider Let’s Go Music in a free pilot programme, supported by the Pacific Business Trust and Ringa Hora, the Services Workforce Development Council. The initiative will be delivered face to face across three weekends in October, with the remaining learning time through self-directed learning. Pitched at the introductory level, indicative topics include managing an industry-relevant expense system, developing income admin processes and tax regulations and obligations pertinent to the creative sector, including manging income tax and GST calculations. Toi Mai knows from extensive engagement with Pacific creatives across the motu that there was an urgent need for flexible learning opportunities to improve their business skills. The micro-credential development was a collaborative effort led by Te Pūkenga, with input from Toi Mai, Unitec’s school of creative industries and Launch Pad Fale, a Pacific creative social enterprise. The Introduction to Taxation in the Creative sector micro-credential has been endorsed by Ringa Hora, the Workforce Development Council responsible for business qualifications.
