Review of New Zealand Certificate in Museum Practice

E hiahia ana mātou ki te rongo i tāu e whakaaro ai – we want to hear what you think!

Toi Mai Workforce Development Council, in collaboration with Auckland Museum and Service IQ, has recently drafted some proposed changes to New Zealand Certificate in Museum Practice (Level 4).

The proposed changes to the qualification include the introduction of two strands:

  • Museum Operations
  • Indigenous Conservation.

As part of this review, we have also developed two new skill standards to support the proposed Indigenous Conservation strand:

  • Tiaki Taonga: Foundations of Indigenous Conservation Practice (Level 4, 15 credits)
  • Rangahau Taonga: Analytical Practice in Indigenous Conservation (Level 5, 15 credits).

We now invite further input and feedback from the museum sector, education providers, and related stakeholders to ensure the qualification and new standards reflect current and emerging needs within New Zealand’s GLAM sector, and support pathways for both museum operations and kaupapa Māori-based conservation practice.

A copy of the proposed revised qualification document and standards are below.
